Letter from Colin Mckay Club Development Officer

"As Club Development Officer for the City of Edinburgh Council I am delighted to work with Redhall Star in their quest to develop football in the west of Edinburgh. The club is very fortunate to have a committed group of individuals headed by President Ian McDonald who have a strong vision for the future of football in the city. The Council is pleased to negotiate a long term lease with the club on the pavilion at Redhall Park and in return Ian McDonald and his committee have already made a major investment making Redhall Park one of the city's premier facilities that will benefit generations of players in the future.

Another exciting new project is the development of a youth programme and discussions are well under way between the Council and youth coach Bobby Collins to improve access and facilities at Hailes Quarry and Clovenstone that will allow youngsters in the Wester Hailes/Longstone area the opportunity to start playing football whilst creating a pathway of opportunity to link with the Redhall senior programmes.

I fully recognise the huge impact Edinburgh sports clubs and their thousands of coaches and volunteers have on all kinds of social, health and sporting issues and the important role they play in keeping Scotland's Capital city fit and healthy and any club wishing advice or assistance please contact:

Redhall Youth Get Hailes Quarry Park

BOBBY COLLINS was celebrating months of hard work at the news that the Redhall Star youth set-up for next season have secured the facilities in Hailes Park as their base. Bobby is one of the most hard-working young coaches in youth football with a real desire for community involvement in Wester Hailes. He said: "As you know, I was at a meeting with councillor Ricky Henderson, Colin McKay and Craig Dunlop and we have now come to an agreement for next season and we are getting an extended let lease on Hails Quarry Park to use for our youth development teams based in the area. I really can't thank Ricky, Colin and Craig enough for their hard work in making this happen. These three men have been outstanding and it shows that people really care about what goes on in our community. This also gives the kids a base in their area to develop their football skills. When the club started over a year ago, I contacted a few of the other councillors in the area and I felt I was given the run around but after I met Ricky Henderson at the Score Scotland wevent in the area at New Year, he promised he would do what he could to help and after a lot of meetings and Ricky spending a lot of time on this we are now getting an extended Let on the park. Colin McKay has also helped us from the start and has really helped us get this club off the ground and is still working with us to build up community based football when we change our name to Redhall Star next season. Craig Dunlop has always been on the scene helping us trying to secure a park for the kids of Wester Hailes and surrounding areas. This means the club can now go forward thanks to these three men who want to make changes in football and the community!"
